Friday morning

Been at work for more than an hour now. All my work is finished.

Eight and a half hours left of being here.

Nothing to do.

So bored.

You'd think with access to the entire Internet that one could't get bored. However, I get bored on a regular basis. I don't feel like hunting down good fanfics (and hey, I just realized that wereadshite hasn't updated in a coon's age. *checks site* August 30th was the last update. Okay, maybe more like some insect's age, not a coon's. Seems like a long time...).

Hm. I haven't finished listening to the first four HP books on CD yet (I keep not listening to them for weeks at a time), maybe I'll do that today.

The Name Meme!

1. Is the name you have now the same name that's on your birth certificate? If not, what's changed?

Exactly the same, yes.

My sister changed her last name though, and then got married a couple months later and so it changed again. I was amused.

2. If you could change your name (first, middle and/or last), what would it be?

I'd change my first name without hesitation. It's a very unusual one for here in America (but it'd fit in great in Germany!). I always have to spell it for everyone, and the sound of it is ugly to my ear (in that musical sort of way that words have). Also, I don't really identify with it at all. People at work call me my real name, people where I'm happy (online) call me Thistle. I like Thistle. It has character and it sounds nice when spoken aloud.

3. Why were you named what you were? (Is there a story behind it? Who specifically was responsible for naming you?)

My father named me (yet another reason for disliking my name). I'm sure I was named for some female relative, but if so I don't recall who.

4. Are there any names you really hate or love? What are they and why?

If I had been born a boy, I would have been named Wolfgang. I love that name. I've always loved the name David as well. Lately I've taken to liking the name Noah, even though it's a more religious one. (I know David is in the bible as well, but I don't think people first think religion when they hear the name.)

I wish names had more character though, that people could be named Thistle or Firelight or Mother's-Loving-Arms or things like that. Joe, Bob, Mike, Judy... where's the character in those names? I think that when people reach X age (16? 18? 21?) that they should get to pick some adult name for themselves. Eh... or maybe some older age, like 30. Lord knows what names teens would pick for themselves. ;) Heck, maybe you could pick a new "adult name" every five or ten years, that'd be cool.

Names I hate? Trendy names with y's in odd places and purposeful misspellings.

5. Is the analysis of your name at accurate? How or how isn't it?

Um, I guess it is, but it also seems to be vague in the way that it would appear to be accurate to anyone who read it.

Uh oh! They're multiplying!

I see I've been friended by silverthistle. That's... *counts* One... two! Two thistles who are now watching me! milkthistle, is this your doing? Don't you two think that I'll be frightened off by your outnumbering of me! I am Thistle-Chaser, not Thistle-Flee'er!

Rarrr! Flee, little thistles! Here I come!

GIP, mostly.

Since I deleted the HP100 mod icon, I had room for a new one. And since the thistles are now ganging up on me, it seemed a fitting subject matter. So take this, tasty thistles! I have my eye on you! ;)

I feel bad, I haven't read a single HP100 drabble this week (except Isis', I think? If this week's was about the squid, then I read it. Otherwise I'm thinking about last week's). I wasn't going to write for this week, under the theory if I miss a week it'll no longer be bad if I miss a week, because I won't have written for every week, but now I'm twitchy. I really think about these things too much!

I'm so glad it's the weekend! Yay!

ETA: And by the way, I love air conditioning. It's still like 100 degrees outside, but I have it nice and cool in here. Yay! Another 100+ day tomorrow, too. Let's just hope that CA's electricity holds out!
