Lovely Friday Morning

I had a real scone for breakfast (mmm), and while eating it I read three intelligent essays by millefiori:

An analyst of Dumbledore.

Is (canon) Snape really ugly?

Is there any chance of real/canon Harry/Draco?

I've not been in very many fandoms, but Harry Potter is the first one I've been in that has such smart fans. I love how we can have intelligent, mature conversations about characters and storyline details. I love how even after being in the fandom for a half-year I can still discover wonderful new fans with interesting ideas. And, though I do little writing myself, I take pride in how other fan authors are so much better than the creator of our source material; we've improved on JKR's ideas, we've explained and covered or rewritten plot holes, we've taken one-dimensional characters and turned them into full, believable, real, complex "people".

I'm so proud to be part of this fandom.

Gringotts has taken over Citibank

Since I needed to open a savings account, I went to the bank where I have a checking account: Citibank. One would have thought this would make it easier, as they already know who I am, have my proof of citizenship, all that stuff. Nope. I was a "new customer" and had to go through all the initial crap. This ate up my whole hour lunch break, plus more time.

But the arrival of the wizards made it all worth it.

I had to finish up the transaction at the counter (lord knows why it couldn't be finished at the desk area where we did everything else), when they walked in. Young men in robes. It took everything I had not to drop my wallet and paperwork, and pounce them to the ground and shake them and yell 'Take me back with you! I want to go! I can't stay here! Pllleeeeeease!'. But upon second look, I realized that they were just monks, not wizards.

Monks are cool, but they're no where near as cool as wizards.

Stupid cat + stupid me = good drabble?

I've mentioned a couple times that my cat likes to eat string/thread/hair/etc. This is really really bad, as doing this almost killed her once before (she had to go in for emergency surgery and got part of her insides cut out to remove it). I attempt to keep all string/thread under lock and key, but it's impossible to totally prevent access to it all.

Last night Miss Kitty decided to eat a thread that came off a towel. I saw what she was doing, dived onto her, and forced her mouth open so I could try to pull it out. Would it surprise anyone if I said that she bit and scratched me? Nah, I didn't think so. Other than the fact that she was the one who decided to eat string, this was all my fault.

I doctored myself up last night (this happens a lot, alas), but it still hurts a little today. (The bite's not bad at all, but the scratches are annoying. No worries, I know cat bites are bad, but it's not deep at all.)

I didn't think about this as I was writing, but now I wonder if this event fueled this week's HP100 drabble. The topic is "the Room of Requirement" (that room in Hogwarts that will turn into anything you need it to be). I believe I've never written about this character before.

Also, I need a new default icon. I don't mind this one, but it's not good as a default one. Makes me feel like I'm being snarky all the time.
